Got up at 5:55 after sleeping fitfully. Now I’m dressed, have closed all the windows and blinds, and in half an hour we leave the house. It’s foggy, really foggy. I hope it’s not affecting flights at Logan; our 10a.m. flight won’t be in the fog, but there may be knock-on effects from flights scheduled now. In deep fog.

I’m dressed for summer from the waist up (it has been hot again, and it’s hotter in New York City), for any kind of weather below (jeans), and for cooler weather and sturdy walking (fashion be damned) on my feet: socks, so I don’t have to suffer the indignity of walking barefoot through security controls, and my “Presbyterian / Mormon”-style Saucony black leather sneakers. They’re so ugly, they’re hip. Actually, no they’re not. They’re just ugly. But great for walking, even if I do look like I’m imitating a Bible salesman when I’m wearing them.
